Benefits Of Regular Oil Changes

If you want to maximize the life span of your vehicle and keep it running smoothly for years to come, one of the simplest things you should do is have the oil changed regularly. This inexpensive and quick service is an important preventive maintenance step that will save you the expense and inconvenience of repairs down the road.

The longer your oil remains in your engine, the dirtier it becomes. Debris builds up and can clog engine components. But keeping your vehicle engine healthy is just one reason to have regular oil changes. Clean oil also means better gas mileage, which saves you money on fuel costs. It also generates less hazardous emissions, which helps reduce smog and air pollution.

How Often Should a Vehicle’s Oil be Changed?

As a general rule, you should change your oil seasonally. That means you should book an oil change every three months or every 3,000 miles. Your vehicle owner’s manual will spell out recommended maintenance time frames. It doesn’t hurt to be proactive, as well. Any time you visit our shop for a checkup, our skilled mechanics will take a look at your oil and let you know if it’s starting to look thick and dirty.

Oil change time frames are not set in stone, but are meant as general guidelines. How often, where, how fast you drive your motorcycle and what type of oil your motorcycle uses are all variables that can affect how often you should book your oil change appointments. You can be confident that whenever you visit us at 2 Wheels Heaven and say, “please check my oil” we’ll evaluate your oil as part of the check up.

What is the Difference between Standard Oil and Synthetic Oil?

This question is a good example of why you should always trust a pro to change your motorcycle’s oil. You want to make sure your motorcycle is using the right type of oil. Standard oil is oil that comes from petroleum. This type of oil is less expensive and ideal for use in newer motorcycles that haven’t yet reached 5,000 miles, whose owners are still “breaking them in” Synthetic oil is a combination of fluids designed to reduce friction and engine wear and to last much longer than standard oil. It costs more, but works better in cold and hot temperatures and uses less fuel.

If you are driving your motorcycle with dirty oil, you’re sacrificing fuel efficiency and the safety of your motorcycle’s engine. Driving your motorcycle with the wrong type of oil is just as bad. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Don’t try to change your own oil and don’t trust just any repair shop with this important job.
